I use my SmartTalk headphone adaptor daily to connect my iPhone 3GS to my (alas now discontinued) “The Speaker Company” NS3 noise-cancellling headphones.

Headphones have a 3mm socket input, and I got a very short male-male connector cord, so I have a very simple system: – iPhone -> SmartTalk (~ 2 foot long cable) clipped on shirt -> headphones. No excess cable lying around! Control button on SmartTalk allows pause/un-pause of music without fumbling in pocket, or canceling of alarms or answering the phone (once you get used to the ~ 0.3 second lag in responding to the button). Basically lets you have the convenience of the control button that’s on the headphones supplied with the iPhone, but lets you use real headphones. No volume control on the SmartTalk, but there’s one on the headphones. Skipping tracks via repeated pushes works fine: two quick pushes to skip forward, 3 to skip back (a bit harder).

The “hold button to invoke voice dialing” feature is also great: can pause iTunes & make a call, all without taking phone out of pocket. Only used occasionally with the phone, but seems to work OK.

I have been a Jabra Bluetooth fan for years and this is my first non-Jabra Bluetooth headset. In these years I have broken, lost or damaged at least five Jabra headsets but still was looking for all for one solution.

There are three major audio communication devices today which may need a headset. Starting with your deskphone, your cell/mobile phone and may be your software VoIP running on your laptop/desktop specifically when you travel.

I am glad to say this device can do all that and that too with ease of use to the limit that factory settings will work for most standard phones.

Desk phone/Landline (as we used to call it )
I am using Cisco 79xx series VoIP desk phone at work with headset button that has RJ11 jack for headset – piece of cake worked like a charm, no tuning required except minor volume setting.

Cell/Mobile
Paired with my blackberry and iPhone under a minute and up and running

VoIP Softphone: have not tried as yet but have been informed that it should work flawlessly.

So far my experience for the last 48 hours have been nothing but *five star*.

Sound Quality: Excellent 5* including NO static, noise etc
Distance: Pretty good, I can use my breakroom while in the meeting which should be 20+ feet without loss of quality
Remote pickup/drop: I dont have a lifter so I have to press headset button but can drop the call remotely. Cell phone works just fine the way it should including last number redial
Weight n Stuff : Very nice fit and light wt however as compared to typical BT series of Jabra it is little big (with extended MIC)
Noise Cancellation: Haven’t heard a complaint as yet including while driving the car wih driving window open
Additional: I am thinking of buying the 500A base station for my home as well so that I can use the same headset for all my needs – Bonus.
Looks: Not bad but this is not the one that will enhance your looks . Extended Mic gives you noise cancelling, avoids your effort to speak louder but reduces the glamour case you care but thats my opinion.

Now the downside

1. Minor: Base station, as typical of Plantronics, too big could have done a better job but not really a downside as in cant take even half a point for that. But something to think about.

2. Major downside is unlike Jabra’s amazing feature of connecting two bluetooth devices at the same time, 510S system just drops my cell phone and connects to basestation the moment it reaches with in the vicinity of signal – bad bad bad

I really wish that plantronics can develop the headset to support multiple bluetooth devices simultaneously so that irrespetive what rings you can answer and feel really handsfree.

That takes one star away. Case I could find a solution to this problem I will update my review.

I’ve been using the GN9330 for a month or so now, and the headset is pretty nice in terms of versatility.

The Good:
-The range from the cradle/phone to a lost signal is at least 325 feet, and I’ve even managed to go a bit further int eh building I work in (it’s functional for at about 2 floors away from the cradle.)
-I also really like the modular ability to switch between a standard over the head wire holder for the unit, or the much smaller over the ear clip on.
-The charge on the unit lasts for a number of days before it needs to be recharged.
-The incoming sound is excellent, though the initial out of the box setting is very low.
-The pick-up/hang-up button is fairly responsive with a light touch.

The Bad:
-The out-going sound quality seems to be relatively low, even for calls withing the same building.
-The over the ear clip tends to make the unit hug very close to the face which can cause the microphone to pick-up garbled, muffled sound.

I am in the commercial insurance business and practically “live on my phone.” I purchased this headset mainly because of the talk time claim of up to eight hours. The claim did not fall short. This headset exceeded my expectations.

I was using a Jawbone 2 before this one and, if I didn’t charge it daily, I was fumbling to put my Blackberry Tour on speakerphone by the end of the day. The first week using this Motorola H680 I charged it fully on Tuesday morning and resolved to test out the talk time. I decided not to charge the headset again until I heard the familiar low battery warning beep.

I used it normally all day and didn’t hear the expected low battery warning beep at all. Let me note that when I wasn’t actually using the headset I turned it off. By-the-way, that’s another slick feature of the H680, a small sliding power switch in the back. I’m sure turning the power off helps extend the talk time, but I was turning the Jawbone 2 off when not in use as well.

To make a long story a little shorter, I continued using the headset normally until Friday morning, when I finally heard the warning beep. By Wednesday night, I was really impressed. By Friday morning, I was ecstatic!

As far as the call quality goes, I have no complaints after a month of regular use. A couple of friends have mentioned that they can hear me very well. However, they can sometimes hear some background noise, but it’s not overly intrusive. Well, Motorola doesn’t claim this headset has any noise cancellation technology, so that’s pretty much to be expected.

As for what some other reviewers have mentioned about the comfort of the H680, I experienced no discomfort whatsoever. It fit nicely on my ear and was quite comfortable from the first time I used it.
