Jawbone Icon “The Thinker” Bluetooth headset (Silver wheat) Review

I have owned all of the Jawbone models since the first. All are small and I have lost several. I now carry it in a separate zipper case with my phone number inside.

I had difficulty with some previous models. I never could get a comfortable fit with the wire ear loops. Later I learned to use only the rubber ear piece.

The greatest problem with previous models was the use of the pressure sensitive areas of the Jawbone. Reaching to adjust the position during a phone call would sometimes terminate the call or to turn off the Bluetooth connections. Also pressure on it in my small case would sometimes turn it “On” depleting the battery.

The redesign of the Icon has solved these problems as well as improving noise cancellation.

For me the greatest improvement has been the elimination of the pressure sensitive points.

The Icon now has a small sliding switch on the inside surface. Sliding this switch, showing a blue dot, automatically connects the Bluetooth feature of the phone. In addition, pressing a small pressure switch on the top surface next to the ear, allows a voice to announce the remaining talk time available.

Other features include a redesigned charger.

I have also found that the Icon is louder than my Nokia phone earpiece permitting easily heard phone calls in a noisy environment.

I’ve tried em all. Jabra, Motorola, Jawbone and Plantronics. This one works better than them all. Its comfortable, loud and the voice activation works amazingly well. I was a little skeptical at first but i was extremely happy with the performance. But…that’s not why i’m here. I had no intention of creating a review for this because it had enough reviews. However, that all changed because of what happened this past weekend. Because this thing is so small, i accidentally left it in my shirt pocket and threw my shirt into the hamper. When laundry time came around i threw the shirt with the headset into the laundry not realizing what i had just done. I only realized my mistake when i went to the washer after the cycle and was putting the clothes into the dryer i saw the device in the bottom of the wash bin. Boy was i sad and a little angry at what i had done. However, upon further inspection it still appeared to be in perfect brand new condition with no visual damage whatsoever. So i left it on my desk for about a week to dry off and decided to plug it in and give it a charge a few days ago. To my surprise, the light turned red signaling that it was charging. So i laughed and decided to wait things out. After a couple hours i fired it up and hit the button and i heard the words “say a command”. Still a little skeptical i told it “am i connected”. Then it said…”attempting to connect……your phone is connected.” At that moment my jaw dropped and i have since decided to become a Blue Ant user for life. I used it in a 60 minute conference call this morning and it was as if nothing changed. I seriously think they should market this device as water resistant. I sure hope the headset charges even while the green indicator ceases to blink. This is how the Iqua SUN worked. I replaced the SUN with this one due to fit issues which ultimately caused sound issues. If I were only to review the i.Tech SolarVoice on sound quality, fit, and features, I would give it 5 starts. It does what it says, and does it well. It even works with voice dialing on the 3GS. However, because I went out of my way for a solar headset, I expected it to charge more often off sunlight.
